Summer 2012 ~ by Griz (aka Steve Stovner) ~
This summer, Grandson Robby and I have been building a new pumphouse. Robby went home for the weekend so I decided to tackle a project that has been on my list for 15 years (safe access to the top of my 15,000 gallon water tank). I had the lumber, all the tools were at hand and the pad was ready, so now was the time. Note: Several years ago I picked up 195 pressure treated 8 foot 2x6's at an estate sale for $125. The steps and platform will be a lot safer than a flimsy ladder and standing on a slippery curved surface to put chlorine in the tank.
P.S. I made that ladder 30 years ago for loft access in my Ballard storage facility. It spent its first 12 years indoors and the last 18 exposed to the elements. We had to replace 3 rungs due to rot when we were using it to work on the pump house.
It's bolted to the steel straps I embedded in the concrete pad. The platform is 8' x 50".
1/4" Plywood skirt gives it a finished look.
Still needs a hand rail which I will make from used 1-1/2" steel water pipe.
